Drive down the interstate today, and you will see a GPS in 75% of the cars on the highway. But what about the poor guy on a motorcycle? Well now a GPS is available for riders as well. While this is not new technology, it is new for motorcycles. It takes a special unit to handle the adverse weather conditions subject to motorcycle equipment; the wind, the rain, and the vibration.
The screen format has been enhanced for motorcycle riders as well. The icons are larger, so they will be easier to see. Keep in mind that a motorcycle rider has the wind in his face, and the bike won’t ride quite as smooth as your car. An added feature of the Tom Tom unit is a Bluetooth connection for hands-free navigation of the system. A speaker in your helmet will call out directions to keep you on course, so you arrive at your destination on time.
Like a traditional GPS navigation system, the Tom Tom will arrive fully loaded with very detailed maps of both Canada and the US. It is loaded with literally millions of points of interest, and you can upload more current information in the future to ensure you have the latest data whenever you travel.
Avid cyclists will appreciate the route selection tool. No need to stay on the crowded interstates. Ask the Tom Tom Rider for the most scenic route. Get off the 4 lane interstate and meander down a winding 2 lane scenic highway without the fear of getting lost.
You can search for restaurants by city, proximity, or type of cuisine. Select the hotel search to locate your final destination of the day. You can also perform a search of local hot spot attractions.
Motorcycle riders will appreciate the real-time weather information. If you are driving in a car, the weather is not such a concern. If you are on a bike, you will want a little advance warning of an impending storm. The real-time weather report will alert you in advance, so you can find a safe haven to wait out the storm or just pull over, suit up, and keep on riding.
You better be good all year if you want this on your Christmas list. The entire package retails for around $700. That’s a pretty expensive toy although if you get lost just one time, you’d be happy to have the technology.
